Indian Ocean METISS submarine optical cable system to build, cost 75 million euros

Malacca Airtel Telecom and Belgian Telecom Belgacom announced the formation of a joint venture to deploy a submarine optical cable system that connects Madagascar, Mauritius and Reunion with a total investment of approximately € 75 million.

 

According to the introduction, the submarine optical cable system known as Meltingpot Indian oceanic Submarine System (METISS), plans to put into use in 2018.

 

In addition to the two telecom companies, Telma, Blueline from Madagascar, Emtel and CEB FiberNET in Mauritius, Zeop and SFR in Reunion, and Telco OI and Canal in France will be involved in the construction of the system.

 

It is reported that the Indian Ocean Commission IOC advocate the construction of the submarine optical cable system, the European Union and the French Development Agency will give the project funding support.
